How To Stop Chasing Love

We’ve all chased love at one time or another, some of us still do. We do it when we’re lonely or insecure, when we seek approval or need connection. We chase love because we don’t trust it will come on its own. And the harder we try to catch it, the further it stays away.

Not even a pandemic will slow the chase!

On this episode, Dasha Schindler, author of the new book “Don’t Chase Love, Cut To The Chase: Or, How To Google Your Way To A Happy Relationship,” shares her story of childhood trauma, her lifelong pursuit to heal her heart, and her secret to finding love without having to chase it.

Robby and Treva aren’t parents, but they’re giving much respect to the (single) parents out there doing the heavy
lifting. Managing home, work, life, kids AND a love life is never easy, but doing it in a pandemic takes made skills and patience.

This week’s guest, licensed marriage and family therapist Kristin MacDermott, shares her tips, tools, and strategies for successful pandemic parenting.

From knowing your roles, to managing expectations and setting healthy boundaries, to instilling respect, creating structure, and building confidence, we’re helping parents of all kinds get a grip and level-up their skills during the pandemic and beyond.

Kristin MacDermott MFT

Kristin MacDermott is a licensed marriage and family therapist with a decade of research in resilience.
Her resilience-training programs have been validated in four studies with researchers from the
Duke Clinical Research Institute, published in peer-reviewed journals, and proven to improve key mental health and resilience outcomes, including anxiety, depression, distress, self-efficacy, and PTSD. Kristin has designed resilience-training programs for some of the highest-performing people on the planet, including Navy SEALS and the LAPD. Her programs have been used in more than 20 hospitals across the country, including at the Duke Cancer Institute and the National Institutes of Health. She has also designed programs for school, corporations, and non-profits that support at-risk kids.

Love & Politics: The State Of The Union

Guests:

Jeanne Safer & Richard Brookhiser

In an election year that’s more contentious than ever, can you hate someone’s politics but still love them anyway?

According to our guests Jeanne Safer and Richard Brookhiser, it’s possible.

Jeanne is a Liberal, and the author of the book, “I Love You, But I Hate Your Politics.” Richard is a Conservative, and the Sr. Editor of the National Review, the leading conservative journal of opinion. The’ve been happily married for 40 years, despite being on opposite sides of the aisle.

There’s a secret key to love and politics, but you’ll have to put your political differences aside to find out in this fantastic episode!

Jeanne Safer is a psychoanalyst and author. Her book “I Love You, But I Hate Your Politics” is a compilation of interviews with people who are struggling to work out relationships with political opponents whom they love. Based on her long personal and professional experience, Jeanne helps them figure out what to do and say and–just as important–what NOT to do and say. It’s really about the nature of love, and what really matters in intimacy. It’s what Jeanne calls “showing up,” not how you vote.

Richard Brookhiser is an historian and political journalist. Aside from his Senior Editor duties at the National Review, he’s written 14 books, mostly about the American Founding. His most recent is “Give Me Liberty: A History of America’s Exceptional Idea.” He has also hosted three documentaries, the most recent is John Marshall: The Man Who Made the Supreme Court,” which is available on Amazon.

ABOUT DONE BEING SINGLE

WITH TREVA AND ROBBY

How did Treva and Robby Scharf know it was time to settle down? Because they were done being single.

Before getting married at 51 and 57, Treva and Robby did it all, dated it all, but neither could close the deal.

For Treva, dating was the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. At almost 50, she gave up on marriage, and resigned herself to eternal singleness.
